My 'American Road' began about 25 years ago fuelled by a constant desire to escape into another World of Bruce Springsteen's Born to Run, Jack Kerouac's Denver Day's, Midnight Cowboy, Breakfast at Tiffany's, The Graduate, the relentless draw of New York and its noise and an enduring search for a great hamburger . I listened to Donald Fagen singing about 'Driving West on Sunset' and thought ... where's Sunset, I have to go there and 'drive west' ... so I did. Moving forward I shot countless jobs in the U.S. and along the way collected a file of personal work which I burried for another day. Images were for the most part shot between 3am and 8am when the great theatre is empty and the audience are still asleep. America unfolds everyday. The light emerges slowly out of the East before pouring over the landscape and slicing its way through the cities high rise, you just have to be awake to catch it all, and its still out there just beyond the City Limits and I'm still going with this one. Its now 2019 and I've began to print some of this work as a single collection. It is as yet unrepresented and largely unseen. It is 'America Before 8am'
